The new film is directed by O. Russell from his original screenplay. The synopsis reads:
Joy is the wild story of a family across four generations centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise facing a world of unforgiving commerce. The film sounds promising, and the takeaways of the trailer seem 1.) O. Russell isn’t done yet (duh!), and 2.) JLaw looks to be working up an Oscar hard. That scene of her with a shotgun, then, becomes so many layers of meaning. “My name’s Joy by the way,” she says.
Slated for a Christmas release in the U.S. (that’s a few weeks later for us folk in the Philippines), Joy boasts a fine cast including Robert De Niro, Edgar Ramirez, Isabella Rossellini, Diane Ladd, and Virginia Madsen.
