Three great Pinoy films inaugurate FDCP’s first Cinematheque in Manila

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) has moved its office from Chino Roces Avenue in Makati to the heart of the capital in Ermita, Manila. This move makes it closer to the National Film Archives of the Philippines (NFAP) and occupies the building where Instituto de Cervantes used to be.

Cinematheque Manila is celebrating inauguration with FREE screenings of great films tomorrow December 15 starting at 5PM thru December 16, Wednesday, at 5PM:

Salamat sa Alaala (2015) is Ricardo “Drik” Tropeo‘s homage to the late Gerry De Leon, National Artist for Film.

Manuel Conde’s epic masterpiece about the young conqueror follows through at 7PM, Genghis Khan (1950) has been restored by the world-renowned film laboratory L’Immagine Ristorata and is the first Filipino film to compete in an international film festival.

Henry Francia’s On My Way to India Consciousness, I Reached China (1968) closes the inauguration on December 16, at 5PM. The film details Francia’s life in New York City during the late 60s.

Other Cinematheques are situated in Baguio, Iloilo, Davao and Zamboanga. Having one in Manila means more chances of seeing Filipino films curated by both the FDCP and the NFAP. Apart from the theater itself, Cinematheque Manila will include a classroom, a souvenir shop (time to do some memorabilia shopping then!) and a library which the FDCP aims to complete by next year.
