From the looks of it, we’re in for a retro rocking good time when Thor: Ragnarok hits Philippine theaters this November. Just rapid-firing: there’s the Led Zepellin soundtrack, the bursts of color, the Thor vs Hulk gladiatorial match, Cate Blanchett adding the much needed gravitas to the franchise, and of course, Loki looking cool. Retooling the Thor franchise (which, just to make it clear, are the worst Marvel movies to date IMO) to embrace the camp and emulate Guardians of the Galaxy’s formula might have been just what it needed — the right take to crack our favorite Asgardian wildman. Still though, I can’t shake off the feeling that somehow we were robbed of a high fantasy, swords and sandals, Games of Thrones or Neil Gaiman-y Thor movie. A film that basically just embraced the mix of regality and grit of what it means to be a Norse god, that showed us the vastness and the idiosyncrasies of the nine worlds of mythology. Oh well, Thor: Ragnarok still looks like tons of fun. If we can’t visit the lands of myth, we can always go to space.

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela (Cate Blanchett). But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).
