A common topic among this year’s Sundance reviews and reportages is that of Daniel Radcliffe’s strangely practical flatulence in Swiss Army Man, a film that puts Disney’s Finding Dory on an acid trip. The film is written and directed by Daniels, the directing duo of Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and finds a man (Paul Dano) who in the throes of losing hope discovers a corpse (Radcliffe) whose, uh, farts can quite literally do “McGyver shits”. They go on a surreal journey home.
Swiss Army Man is entirely different from the studio’s M.O., but it’s an exciting time for A24—the studio that brought films like Under the Skin and The Witch to mainstream consciousness—to be casting wider nets.
