Well hello, here we are once more in this age of exorcism films that try their very best to live up to the hype of the genre. The vignette above is from the film “The Pope’s Exorcist” and it is inspired by the actual files of Father Gabrielle Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican (eventually a real job). The film follows Amorth, played by Academy-Award winner Russell Crowe, as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden.

Directed by Julius Avery, with a screenplay by Michael Petroni and Evan Spiliotopoulos, screen story by Michael Petroni and R. Dean McCreary & Chester Hastings, based on the books “An Exorcist Tells His Story” and “An Exorcist: More Stories” by Fr. Gabriele Amorth.

Crowe is joined by Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe and Franco Nero. Check out the clip above as Crowe tells us his experience on playing the part, alongside that really musky Italian accent of his.

The Pope’s Exorcist is distributed in the Philippines by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.
