Summer film camps are fun. This is why we love partnering with such events, including the buzzworthy, 5-day event, the Rebelde Film Camp. The workshop is promised to be Rebelde’s grandest edition yet, featuring key industry figures such as director Kidlat Tahimik (Perfumed Nightmare), cinematographer Larry Manda (Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis), Antoinette Jadaone (That Thing Called Tadhana), Paul Soriano (Kid Kulafu), and more, who will discuss their trade to more than a hundred campers that have already signed up.
Film Police Reviews is invited to do a coverage, for which we are genuinely excited. Here are some reasons why we are, and why you should too, if you’re thinking of signing up (you still have until May 7th to register)!
Opportunities
A huge sample of the campers, mentors, and organizers are people who are involved in the industry. Being surrounded by these people, you have for five days amassed opportunities to seek for potential collaborations, internships, etc.
Learn filmmaking from the greats
Rebelde has been consistent about gathering key Philippine cinema figures to help mentor the campers. Just last year acclaimed screenwriter Ricky Lee (Himala) was on board. This year, the Father of Independent Cinema, Kidlat Tahimik himself, is bringing his wooden camera and discuss cinema with more than a hundred filmmaking aspirants. Director Antoinette Jadaone, film producer Paul Soriano, and cinematographer Larry Manda will also mentor.
Building connections
While Rebelde, in essence, is a 5-day long film workshop, it still is in the form of a camp. And what happens at camp is you make friends and you build connections. You are surrounded by young filmmakers-to-be, so go about and start networking and plan your film projects together. The mentors and organizers are at arm’s length, too, so take the opportunity to connect with them and learn more.
Banaue makes for a great loc
This year, Rebelde is setting up camp in Banaue, only one of the most beautiful places on earth. Same as last year, campers will get the chance to make impromptu films, and can you imagine a better location than the stunning Banaue Rice Terraces?

The whole village is strategically located above the mountain so you can have a clear, breathtaking view of the Rice Terraces!
Exciting stuff. 🙂
The experience
Don’t hold it against yourself if you’re in it just for the fun of it. As we’ve mentioned, film camps are f-u-n! In the space of five days, Rebelde hopes you’ll have a wonderful time “celebrating films, building connections, learning filmmaking, and most important refueling the drive to dream big”.
