Pelikultura 2018: The CALABARZON Film Festival, held last Feb. 19-21 in the University of the Phlippines Los Baños, awarded its film entries from filmmakers based in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon.

Pelikultura, the three-day film festival organized annually by UPLB PelikuLAB, comprised of short film competitions, exhibitions, film workshops, and forums. The festival also promoted a zine fair called “Match Cut” co-organized by Asshulz. This year, over 30 films were screened at the festival with Sheron Dayoc’s “The Crescent Rising” as the opening film and Kidlat Tahimik’s “Turumba” to conclude the festival.
The Special Exhibition Program Official Selection comprised of entries from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and New York came from filmmakers Aedrian Araojo, Mac Andre Arboleda, Michael Manese, and many others.
Lectures on regional cinema were given by Prof. Patrick Campos from the University of the Philippines Film Institute and Dr. Paul Grant of the University of San Carlos – Cebu. Sherad Anthony Sanchez gave a forum on “How to Watch a Film” alongside Arnel Mardoquio’s Film Directing Workshop.
This was the second year of Pelikultura’s #BuhayElbi competition which aimed to showcase the diverse culture of Los Baños. All six entries from the #BuhayElbi category came from the UPLB-based student film organization UP Film Circle.
