My introduction to Neil Gaiman’s shorter works of fiction is his A Study in Emerald (featured in his collection Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders) from which point I was compelled to read more of the English virtuoso, from his exceptional graphic novels to supremely re-tweetable one-line slices-of-life.
Someone at Tumblr seems to share this same fire and shoots in Gaiman’s ‘ask’ the question if there is any chance at all that the writer will publish a short story collection anytime soon. It turns out he is working on one. “I’m finishing the very last short story of the next collection right now,” he answers. “Everything else has been written: the stories, the introduction, all that…”
The collection is titled Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances which sounds an oomph at his previous collection by all means. It is to be released February of next year, which adds to the list one more thing to have ourselves itching about.
And to exacerbate our itching situations, NPR is reporting that the collection will feature a short story called “Black Dog” which will be set in the same world as his American Gods. Day-made, anyone?
Ha. Gaiman, nerd-man. I bow before you; I cannot wait for February, I see it will be excruciatingly shitty and slow.
