Mike de Leon Teams Up with AFA to Restore ‘Batch ’81’

Hailed as one of the greatest Filipino films of all time, Batch ‘81 is being restored by the Asian Film Archive (AFA) in Singapore. Directed by Mike de Leon and written by Clodualdo del Mundo, Raquel N. Villavicencio, and the director himself, the movie tackles the experiences of seven neophytes trying to get into a fraternity.

According to Inquirer, AFA approached de Leon about restoring Batch ‘81. De Leon agreed and pointed out , “I was sure their facilities would be vastly superior to what we had.”

AFA aims to “to preserve the rich film heritage of Singapore and Asian Cinema, to encourage scholarly research on film, and to promote a wider critical appreciation of this art form” so here’s to hoping that this restoration of Batch ‘81 will be able to pull more viewers and more people to appreciate this artwork.
