Joker: Folie A Deux, the official trailer is out! And it’s nothing short of crazy. Make it double.
From acclaimed writer/director/producer Todd Philips comes the much anticipated follow-up to 2019’s Academy Award-winning “Joker”. The first film earned more than $1 billion at the global box office and remains the highest grossing R-rated film of all time.
Joaquin Phoenix is back in his Oscar-winning dual role as Arthur Fleck/Joker, opposite Oscar winner Lady Gaga (for “A Star is Born”).
“Joker: Folie à Deux” opens only in cinemas October 2.
The trailer shows Arthur Fleck now incarcerated in Arkham State Hospital, after murdering Murray Franklin (veteran talk show host played by Robert DeNiro) live on television.
In true Joker fashion, the trailer is a bit dramatic, and it shows his first meeting with Lee (Lady Gaga), a music therapist for Arkham Asylum. Sparks fly between the two (literally at times), and it seems like Lady Gaga’s Lee/Harley Quinn might fare well with Joaquin Phoenix’s completely transformed version of Joker.
The film also stars Oscar nominee Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Catherine Keener (Get Out, Capote) alongside alongside Zazie Beetz, reprising her role from “Joker.”
We’ve covered the many incarnations of Harley Quinn in this episode of Third World Cinema club here.
