‘Imbisibol’ sweeps Sinag Maynila 2015 awards

Lawrence Fajardo‘s Imbisibol is the big winner of Sinag Maynila as it takes home all seven jury awards from the Gabi ng Parangal held at SM Aura Sky Park on the eve of March 21,2015.

Imbisibol, dubbed as best film of the inaugural form of the film festival, bags best direction for Lawrence Fajardo. He shares writing credits with Herlyn Alegre and John Bedial for the best screenplay, and creative dues with Rolly Inocencio for best production design. Set in wintertime Fukuoka, Japan of the early 90’s, the film is also awarded with best cinematography for Boy Yniguez‘s work.

As an anthology film of four Filipino migrant workers, Imbisibol has four main leads, with Allen Dizon, imbibing the persona of a has-been sexy-star-turned-guest-relations-officer, bagging the trophy for best actor. Ces Quesada, also of Imbisibol, shares the best actress citation with Alessandra de Rossi, who played Belyn in Zig Madamba Dulay‘s riveting drama Bambanti (Scarecrow), a movie exploring the social implications of a ‘small’ case of theft.

The SM People’s Choice Award goes to Jim Libiran‘s Ninja Party, a film on four students from an exlusive all-girls high school exploring the themes of sexuality and power conquests.
