Ben Wheatley’s latest looks gorgeous.
A Field Of England is one of my favorite films of recent, so you’d imagine my enthusiasm when the [inlinetweet prefix=”The ” tweeter=”@FilmPoliceRevs” suffix=”#HighRiseMovie”]trailer for Wheatley’s new film High Rise, starring Tom Hiddleston and Elisabeth Moss, premiered online[/inlinetweet]. Spoiler: I flipped!
Based on the J.G. Ballard novel of the same name, the film is set in a luxury apartment complex where Hiddleston’s Dr. Robert Liang moves into seeking “soulless anonymity.” (For whatever that means.) But having neighbors, especially in this high-rise complex, requires to follow a rather intensive social dynamic, leaving Hiddleston’s character in the throes of insanity. If you’re looking for a counterargument to honoring thy neighbor, this might be that film.
It’s interesting to see where big moo-lah and a big-name ensemble take the English auteur, but if this trailer is any indication, High Rise still speaks much Wheatley. Spoiler: I flipped a second time, now excited for the film’s release by March.
