Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming ‘Black Widow’ movie, based on its teaser trailer

With seven appearances in all twenty-three films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow finally gets her own movie. Set in a timeline between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Scarlett Johannson reprises her role as the eponymous super-spy.

Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow is the first in MCU’s Phase Four of its never-ending, cash-cowing stretch of superheroes that conquers this pseudo universe.

Catch the short clip of the trailer below:

On her journey to self-discovery, Natasha goes back to Russia and bumps into a few relative figures in her life before meeting Iron Man and the rest of the Avengers. There, she reunites with her *older* sister, Yelena Belova played by Florence Pugh, whom we can’t deny is probably wearing that Russian accent better than Scarlett did in Iron Man 2. For most non-comicbook fans reading this, Yelena once bore the title of Black Widow except she wore her hair blonde.

Rachel Weiss is Melina Vostokoff, is a russian assassin whose history with Black Widow is yet to be uncovered in the film, although in the comics she always had a grudge towards Natasha. David Harbour makes his debut in the MCU cast as the Red Guardian a.k.a. Alexei Shostakov a.k.a. The Soviet’s Answer to Captain America.

A couple of other Marvel characters are set to make a debut here, including Taskmaster who is widely feared in the MCU with his superb photographic reflexes and his ability to instantaneously copy his opponents movements (except for Deadpool, whose movements are always unpredictable). Will he be a treacherous villain for the next MCU films to come? Or will he be recruited by SHIELD to prepare them for yet another battle against whatever sorcery the writers would have next?

We also see General Ross played by William Hurt, who’s face is carefully CGI’d to portray a younger version of himself. If you’ve watched all twenty-three MCU films, there are at least one or two characters that bind each solo-movie to the ensemble ones, so I guess for this one General Ross, who made an appearance in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame will bind this to the MCU phase for further connections into the timeline.

Natasha also dons a white suit in this film. Nope, it’s not just a fashion choice, it could actually be a homage to the 2010 Black Widow: Deadly Origin comic  where she dons a white suit on her missions in the USSR. Basing on this teaser, we also get to see the original logo and a few other recruits for the Black Widow program.

It has also been made clear that this is not an origin story. This could be a perfect entry into phase four of what the guys at Marvel Studio is churning up after that dramatic Endgame ending we did and didn’t deserve. Will this also mean that Marvel is shaping up to a more cinematic ouvre?

Black Widow opens in theaters 2020.
