It’s the Golden Globes! You can’t start the year off without awards-season brewing up (we have Sundance just around the corner, so…) and we’ve just received news this week of HBO shows earning 9 nominations.
THE UNDOING
In the Shonda Rhimes world of drama and mystery (and sex!), comes a series on HBO that was literally themed similarly to the novel the show was inspired for. With its first few episodes exploding like wildfire onscreen, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant stars opposite each other with tremendous amounts of sex and murder in this rich-Upper East Side side of life, The Undoing will remind you of those Sidney Sheldon-esque thriller novels.

PERRY MASON
Every once in a while, a period drama sets out to be even better than its original. American Criminal defense lawyer Perry Mason is on the verge of recovering from The Great Depression (and divorce) when he is up for the challenge of solving a sensational murder. The exceptional performance of Matthew Rhys earns him a Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama.
LOVECRAFT COUNTRY
Jurnee Smollett and Jonathan Majors are Letitia and Atticus. Based on the novel by Matt Ruff, they both embark on a road trip across 1950’s Jim Crow America alongside Atticus’ uncle, George (Courtney B. Vance) in search of his father. In a struggle to survive and overcome racist terrors of White America, and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a H.P. Lovecraft paperback.

I KNOW THIS MUCH IS TRUE
I Know This Much is True may sound like a lyric from a 90’s song (but it isn’t!), stars Mark Ruffalo and Kathryn Hahn. This miniseries is co-written and directed by Derek Cianfrance based on the 1998 novel of the same name by Wally Lamb. Mark Ruffalo stars in two roles, identical twin brothers Dominick and Thomas Birdsey, thus earning him a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television.
The Golden Globe awards will be presented on February 28 (March 1st, 10AM) at 9PM.
