Remember Mana? That overlooked aswang film from February last year? Well, it competed in the recently concluded Madrid International Film Festival and bagged two awards—best actress (Cherie Gil, under the foreign language category) and best feature film. The film competed with a handful of feature films including Jody Lee Lipes’ doc Ballet 422.
Mana (Eng. title: Inheritance or The Inheritance) follows a Filipino family who upon learning of their mothers’ ailment returns home to their native home in Negros. The matriarch (Fides Cuyugan-Asensio) is slowly disintegrating to her severe illness. Her children becomes occupied in discussing an inheritance too great that every one seems fearful to take it.
(Aside: this is one of Mark Gil’s very last films before his passing last September.)
Mell T. Navarro’s post on Facebook reports on the recent win and suggests a re-release to the makers and producers of the film. (I agree.)
