Hi Barbie! Hi Ken! Meet the characters of “BARBIE” in their own posters here:

Lahat na ba nakapag-BARBIE template? Here’s the characters of BARBIE in their very own posters similar to what went viral this week with everyone’s own version of the Barbie template.

To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place.  Unless you have a full-on existential crisis.  Or you’re a Ken.

Last week we saw the release of its second teaser trailer. And now, check out these character posters from the movie directed by Oscar-nominated writer/director Greta Gerwig. We couldn’t get out minds out of how and where and what could happen with this story we thought we knew so well. So I guess we’ll all just have to find out in cinemas this July 19.

About BARBIE

The trailer is as campy as the doll itself but it doesn’t give much away about what the film is about. The rumors of it being initially Amy Schumer for the lead role of Barbie before it was handed over to Margot Robbie was recently confirmed in a Buzzfeed article. We already couldn’t get our minds wrapped up with what the movie could be, although it is said that Gerwig based the screenplay on Mattel’s story of Barbie, what more if it were Schumer balancing herself *quite literally* on those impossible shoes which only Robbie could possibly bring to life.

But what exactly is the story of Mattel’s Barbie?

According to the History Channel , in March 1959 Barbara Millicent Roberts or BARBIE’s full name was the first mass-produced toy doll in the U.S. with adult features. She would go on to become one of the most iconic playthings in history. She was sort of invented by businesswoman Ruth Handler (she was the co-founder of MATTEL along with her husband Elliot). Mind you, dolls way back in the day were heavy and made of glass and the boomer years were the same year that plastic and rubber made it’s way into the household. Handler realized as she saw her own daughters make paper dolls of adult women that there was an unfilled niche in a market for toys that allowed girls to imagine the future. Afterall, BARBIE followed the times and had every outfit match the trends— from 50s stars Elizabeth Taylor to Marilyn Monroe, employing over 200 careers.

With the release of the trailer here showcasing a bubbly, confused, but hopeful BARBIE in the stretched likens of Margot Robbie, we can only hope that the material deviates from the cliched love story to what its makers envisioned of the future that Barbie stands for.

Watch the teaser trailer here and catch BARBIE in PH cinemas this July 19.
