Director Dan Villegas (English Only Please, The Breakup Playlist, and most recently Walang Forever) continues his magical streak of directing hit romantic comedies for the masses – this time starring Gerald Anderson and Arci Muñoz. In Always Be My Maybe, not only do we feel the sweetness that a budding romance brings, but we also see the painful lessons realized in relationships, which all of us can all probably attest to.
Tintin (Arci Muñoz) and Jake (Gerald Anderson) are two individuals coming from failed relationships. They later meet when Tintin’s friends dare her to hit on Jake, as proof that she has indeed moved on. A friendship quickly blossoms. After a number of casual meetups, it becomes evident that both of them are building some sort of attraction with each other. Something that is not totally unlikely, given that they really open up in their conversations that range from their hurtful experiences with previous partners to their future goals in life. They decide that they shouldn’t put a label for what they have, which proves easier for two people both keen on avoiding any form of emotional attachments.

Complications arise after an intimate night. The love scenes from this benchmark of the two’s relationship are shot masterfully and paired with Marion Aunor’s sultry ballad “How Can I”. These two are drawn to each other and they just can’t seem to play it by ear even if they try.
