Its looks like Phil Lord and Chris Miller are at it again adding another beloved franchise under their belt. THR reports that the It duo are set to direct one of the Star Wars Anthology movies, one about a young Han Solo.
According to Disney, the story “focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.”
It is looking like this Han Solo spinoff would be entirely different from the Bobba Fett spinoff Josh Trank (Chronicle) was initially helming. But with this movie’s May 25, 2018 release date, it’s not hard to think that plans for the Bobba Fett flick have been scrapped or at least switched places with this one.

It has long been reported that the Star Wars spinoffs would revolve around the origins of key events and characters of the Star Wars universe. Personally, it was quite of a letdown for me that Disney decided to not utilize their Anthology spinoffs to flesh out new characters and new planets in their expanding universe, choosing instead nostalgia – featuring established characters from the past. With Lord and Miller’s recent streak though, it may be interesting to see what spin with the characters this duo can come up with. They have shown that they have a good grasp on blending action and comedy and this might just work well with Star Wars’ original space cowboy.
When it comes to their other projects though, it looks like the chances of them directing The Flash are pretty low (especially since it’s also due for a 2018 release). It is possible thought they will be staying as writers or at least producers for that project.
