We hope you have enough popcorn to last, because Prime Video is now launching award-winning titles on the platform. From ‘Triangle of Sadness’ to ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’.
It’s been quite a successful year for Prime Video. Not only did it launch a handful of amazing Philippine premieres of indie-gems and series, it also premiered its first produced international film Ten Little Mistresses which had mixed reviews, but was received well by audiences.
Which comes no surprise that it would finally continue that streak by releasing some of the best thrilling shows, and movies, from our local cinema to award-winning greats. Check out the list below and don’t forget to download the app of course.
Mahal Kita, Beksman! (March 2)
Dali’s life, a make-up artist and fashion designer, is happy and gay. But when he falls in love… Surprise! He’s straight! Christian Bables is back with Perci Intalan and IdeaFirst talent and friend of the pod Iana Bernardez, also starring Kempee de Leon, and Katya Santos.
Daisy Jones & The Six (March 3)
Based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & The Six is a limited musical-drama series detailing the rise and precipitous fall of a renowned rock band. In 1977, Daisy Jones & The Six were on top of the world. Fronted by two charismatic lead singers—Daisy Jones (Riley Keough) and Billy Dunne (Sam Claflin)—the band had risen from obscurity to fame. And then, after a sold-out show at Chicago’s Soldier Field, they called it quits. Now, decades later, the band members finally agree to reveal the truth. This is the story of how an iconic band imploded at the height of its powers.
Triangle of Sadness (March 9)
Two models are at the crossroads of their careers, they are invited on a luxury cruise with some very interesting characters, all of them oblivious to what the trip is about to face. When the yacht sinks, they find themselves stranded on a deserted island with a group of billionaires and one very talented cleaning lady. Our very own Dolly de Leon’s breakthrough international role as “Abigail” is a must see in this award-winning film by Ruben Östlund. Read our review of the film here.
Deleter (March 16)
An online content moderator, Lyra, who deletes a suicide video made by her co-worker, Aileen, by jumping off the rooftop of her building because of depression. Days after the incident, Aileen comes back as a vengeful spirit haunting Lyra because she had deleted the video why Aileen committed suicide. In the end, Lyra finds out the truth of Aileen’s suicide but will that be enough for her and move on?
DOM (March 17)
Making headlines in newspapers, Pedro Dom becomes the most wanted criminal in Rio de Janeiro. The police gets closer to his steps and, cornered, he tries to escape but ends up arrested. Crime is everywhere, the schemes are even more complex and can become fatal. He has only one option left: impersonate someone else to survive this hell. In the past, a young Victor is at war with the police’s rotten side and, like his son, he must escape before it’s too late. Isolated on a mission in the Amazon forest, he also assumes a new identity in order to infiltrate the locals. Not everything is what it seems. The rules are different now and you have to be careful with those around you.
Swarm (Yellow S1) (March 17)
From co-creators and executive producers Janine Nabers and Donald Glover, Swarm, set between 2016-2018, follows Dre (Dominique Fishback), an obsessed fan of the world’s biggest pop star who sets off on an unexpected cross-country journey.
The Power (March 31)
The Power is our world, but for one twist of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people at will. The series features a cast of remarkable characters from London to Seattle, Nigeria to Eastern Europe, as the Power evolves from a tingle in teenagers’ collarbones to a complete reversal of the power balance of the world.
The series stars Toni Collette as Mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez, alongside John Leguizamo as Rob Lopez, Auli’i Cravalho as Jos Cleary-Lopez, Toheeb Jimoh as Tunde Ojo, Josh Charles as Daniel Dandon, Eddie Marsan as Bernie Monke, Ria Zmitrowicz as Roxy Monke, Zrinka Cvitešić as Tatiana Moskalev, Halle Bush as Allie Montgomery, and more.
