This morning, friends and colleagues who have worked closely with Cesar Hernando has expressed their gratitude and condolences as they considered him to be one of Philippine Cinema’s pillars not just in production design, but in the extensive knowledge he delivers to them and to his students.

He is best known as a production designer, having worked with other masters of Philippine Cinema such as Doy Del Mundo, Mike de Leon, Ishmael Bernal, and contemporaries like Raymond Red, Mes de Guzman and more. His style is known to showcase grit and added visual characterizations to the stories which makes his eye for detail a great companion to the greatest films ever made in Philippine Cinema.

In his collaboration with Mike de Leon, he has done one of the most memorable production designs with films such as Batch ’81 and Kisapmata, considering that these are both films that tackle crimes in Manila society, he perhaps took into memory his own experiences as a son of a policeman who often told stories of the crimes held in the metro with much detail.
