For better or for worse, a remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria is happening. The horror classic holds well for almost four decades-old film, still one of the most thrilling genre pictures of all time. That said, a contemporary iteration is welcome, especially with Luca Guadagnino is at helm.
Picture it: How perfect is Tilda Swinton for the role of Miss Tanner? And Dakota Johnson, too, for that of Suzy Banyon? See it? And Guadagnino’s 2009 film I Am Love is a terrific showcase of Swinton’s daring as an actor. Makes you wonder how they will follow through.

Guadagnino’s remake is slated for a 2017 release; just enough time for him to finish his duties to his film A Bigger Splash, set for a wide release this May. The news of Swinton and Johnson’s casting comes from a recent Q&A, in which Guadagnino reveals that his remake: will be set on 1977 Berlin; will feature a score composed by John Adams; and will “have strong shades of the work of Fassbinder.”
