As fans excitedly anticipate the arrival of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice next summer, the DC Extended Universe’s next entry, Wonder Woman, is now officially underway. Lead actress Gal Gadot has released the first official picture from the upcoming flicking, signalling its start of production.
Along with the picture, Warner Brothers has announced several new cast members (sadly, no dice for Sean Bean, Eva Green, and Nicole Kidman — all who were rumored for the roles of Ares, Circe, and Queen Hippolyta, respectively). Instead Gal Gadot will be joined by Chris Pine (as Captain Steve Trevor aka Wonder Woman’s Boy Toy), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (Clash of the Titans), David Thewlis (Harry Potter), Ewen Bremner (Exodus: Gods and Kings), Saïd Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead), although there’s no indication as to what role anyone is playing….but since I’m a geek, let’s do some predictions, shall we?
Robin Wright: Blonde with a strong presence…hmm, looks like she’ll be taking on the role passed on by Nicole Kidman. Money’s on she’ll be WW’s momma, Queen Hippolyta.
Danny Huston: Fantastic actor, commonly typecast as a villain because he just does sinister really well (e.g. 30 Days of Night, X-Men Origins: Wolverine). I’m guessing he’ll be our movie’s god of war, Ares, instead of Sean Bean.
David Thewlis: He’s a pretty squirrelly fellow: anxious, very nervous. Thewlis could be a supporting villain like Doctor Psycho or maybe an ancillary god like Hephaestus, blacksmith of the gods.
Ewen Bremner: Squirrelly as well, maybe he’s Hephaestus? (Just trust me, Hephaestus has a pretty good chance of appearing because, you know, see WW’s bracelets and sword? Yeah, thought so).
Saïd Taghmaoui: From the set photo he posted, we can confirm he’ll be a colleague of Pine’s Steve Trevor (or Steve Trevor’s grandfather, if rumors of the movie being set during WWII and the present are to be believed).
Elena Anaya: Very sultry, oozing of sex appeal; maybe she’s taking over the role originally rumored for Eva Green, the sorceress Circe.
Lucy Davis: I give up, I’m throwing the best friend card for this casting prediction.
