Trailer: 'Amityville: The Awakening' revisits a supposed-to-be unsalable estate. Since the Lutzes were scurried away from the infamous haunted house in Long Island, New York, a handful of follow-ups and hopeful revamps have been produced to keep the barely enduring franchise alive.

Now, officially the 12th title since the 1979 original, the Amityville franchise is looking to revisit the estate with an upcoming sequel titled Amityville: The Awakening.

There have been talks to return in found-footage form but obviously that has been dropped and in the above trailer it looks like that it is a conscious decision.

Make no mistake: it looks crisp and all. The film is under the helm of director Frank Khafloun, whose admission-worthy remake of 80’s exploitation film Maniac serves the film a generous glint of hope.

But then none of it looks unfamiliar, and where Khafloun doesn’t seem the type of filmmaker to color inside the lines, the slated release for the film has dipped its toes to an abyss of no return: the January release date.
