Celebrate the year of the Ram with the 9th Spring Film Festival at the Shangri-la Plaza in Origas from the 13th to the 22nd of February 2015. You won’t be alienated as the six different acclaimed Chinese films come in English subtitles. Admission is free for all of these loved works.
Opening the festival at 6PM on February 13, 2015 is Wong Kar-Wai’s The Grandmaster, an adaptation of a tale concerning Ip Man, the Wing Chun master of Bruce Lee. The film reaped multiple awards in Hong Kong and even nominations in the Academy Awards through its technical marvel and excellence. Though this screening is available only by invitation, succeeding screenings of this film and others in the 10-day event are open and free for all.
With the different genres the six films are picked from, the 9th Spring Film Festival is not just for the cineastes and cinephiles. For the couples out there, Love Deposit may be a good watch, the cliche thing to do on Valentines’ Day.
Note-worthy entries from heavyweight filmmakers fill in half of the festival. Caught in the Web places the spotlight on cyberbullying and was selected by their country for the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 85th Academy Awards. Rounding up the entries is Beijing Blues, a drama on an ailing detective which reaped the most coveted prizes in the 2012 Golden Horse Awards.
Aside from the audio-visual enamor, you can enhance your strokes and verbosity through cultural workshops on Wednesday, February 19,2015 from 2PM to 5PM. Further explore the East Asian heritage with a Chinese painting exhibition that runs from February 12 to 20, 2015.
