Trailer for ’10 Cloverfield Lane’, as expected, came out of nowhere

WATCH: '10 Cloverfield Lane' trailer + poster, stillsInternet broke with the release of a trailer for a mysterious science fiction film called 10 Cloverfield Lane. The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg from a screenplay co-written by Matthew Stuecken, Josh Campbell, and Whiplash-director Damien Chazelle.

Now producer J.J. Abrams, secretive as ever, is being coy about it, probably baiting still on the marketing tactic that worked very well for the 2008 film Cloverfield. He says the new film is no sequel to the sequel, but a “blood relative” to the Matt Reeves sleeper hit. From my perspective, those words sound cautionary, like a disclaimer that much of the film will largely be about three people losing their sh*ts in the confines of an underground safe house.

We see Mary Elizabeth Winstead bolting up to exit above-ground where the monsters await (if there’s any), but don’t count on a full-blown giant monster movie just yet. The film, on its own, already looks intriguing sans the reference to its “blood relative”. I won’t be surprised if the closest the film will get is a running gag where John Gallagher Jr. keeps a whole palette of cheese, and John Goodman buckets after buckets of Slusho.

Good thing is, we don’t have to wait long. 10 Cloverfield Lane opens in theaters March 11th, 2016.
